Finding My Place at the New Orleans Table
New Orleans is a city that has always been known for its food. From the classic Creole dishes like gumbo and jambalaya to the more modern takes on traditional flavors, there is something for everyone to enjoy. But for me, New Orleans food is more than just about the flavors. It's about the people, the culture, and the history that has shaped this unique city.

I first came to New Orleans as a young woman, fresh out of college and looking for a new adventure. I had always been interested in food, but it was in New Orleans that I truly discovered my passion for cooking. I started working at a small restaurant in the French Quarter, and it was there that I learned the basics of Creole cuisine. I also met some amazing people, both in the restaurant and out in the community, who taught me so much about the city and its food.
Over the years, I have had the opportunity to experience all that New Orleans food has to offer. I've eaten at some of the finest restaurants in the city, and I've also had some of my most memorable meals at hole-in-the-wall joints. I've learned to cook classic Creole dishes, and I've also experimented with my own takes on traditional flavors. And through it all, I've come to appreciate the unique and special place that food holds in New Orleans culture.
In this book, I share my personal and culinary journey through the Crescent City. I'll take you to some of my favorite restaurants, both old and new. I'll share recipes for some of my favorite dishes, and I'll introduce you to some of the amazing people who have made New Orleans food so special to me.
I hope that this book will inspire you to explore the New Orleans food scene for yourself. Whether you're a lifelong resident or just visiting for the first time, I hope that you'll find something new and exciting to enjoy.
Chapter 1: The French Quarter
The French Quarter is the oldest neighborhood in New Orleans, and it's also home to some of the city's best restaurants. In this chapter, I'll take you to some of my favorite spots in the French Quarter, from classic Creole restaurants to modern takes on traditional flavors.
One of my favorite restaurants in the French Quarter is Antoine's. Antoine's is a classic Creole restaurant that has been serving up delicious food for over 180 years. The menu features all of the classic Creole dishes, like gumbo, jambalaya, and etouffee. I also recommend trying the Oysters Rockefeller, which are said to have been invented at Antoine's.
Another great restaurant in the French Quarter is GW Fins. GW Fins is a modern seafood restaurant that offers a creative take on traditional Gulf Coast flavors. The menu changes seasonally, but you can always expect to find something delicious. I highly recommend the grilled oysters with bacon and blue cheese.
If you're looking for a more casual meal, I recommend checking out the French Market. The French Market is a public market that offers a variety of food stalls, from seafood to sandwiches to pastries. I love to get a po'boy from Johnny's Po-Boys, which is a local favorite.
Chapter 2: The Garden District
The Garden District is a beautiful neighborhood known for its historic mansions and lush gardens. It's also home to some of New Orleans' best restaurants. In this chapter, I'll take you to some of my favorite spots in the Garden District, from fine dining establishments to cozy cafes.
One of my favorite restaurants in the Garden District is Commander's Palace. Commander's Palace is a fine dining restaurant that serves up classic Creole dishes with a modern twist. The menu changes seasonally, but you can always expect to find something delicious. I highly recommend the pecan-crusted Gulf fish.
